POKOTABI / Ramen renge
れんげ
A closer look at Ramen renge in Setagaya Ward's Hachimanyama, from old-school clear shoyu ramen and zesty suanlatang to side pairings of mini fried rice and gyoza.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
Tucked into a side street near Hachimanyama Station, Ramen renge is an unpretentious ramen shop where anyone can drop by comfortably. The core of the menu is an old-school Tokyo-style ramen: medium-thin wavy noodles resting in a clear soy-sauce broth. Topped with bamboo shoots, komatsuna greens, and a rustic slice of chashu pork, it delivers a clean, gentle flavour that invites you to sip every last drop of broth without heaviness.
Just as beloved alongside the classic bowl is the generously laden hot and sour noodle soup, or suanlatangmen. Its sharp acidity and tingling chili heat rise immediately from the piping-hot soup, whetting the appetite from the first bite. When ordering, you can ask for extra spice, and an assortment of toppings—from wontons to seasoned soft-boiled eggs—makes it easy to tailor the bowl to your preferred heartiness.
The side menu covers all the bases for rounding out a meal. Sets paired with peppery mini fried rice or savory-sweet minced meat rice are handy options when you want something more substantial. Gyoza are available in small portions starting from 3 pieces, alongside bottled beer and Kakubin highballs, settling naturally into an after-work bite or an evening finishing bowl.
